Dedicated to the composer’s wife, this ballad in 6/4 portrays the journey from dark to light as the piece progresses from minor to major. During the solo section, the piece modulates through the keys of Eb, C, E, G and D. Moving out of the Alto solo, the original melody returns, but is married to the chords / groove of the solo section. Finally, the piece ends with a sparse chorale that echoes the introduction, but is instead in a major key.
