This ballad was inspired by trips to Pine Hill, a park beside Rideau Hall in Ottawa, with the composer’s wife and dog, Darcy. The piece begins and ends with slower lyrical passages, intended to convey images of towering trees and dappled sunlight. The middle section is double time, alternating between ¾ and 5/4 time, inspired by the unpredictability of dogs at play!
